MUNDELEIN, Ill. — Residents in the northwest suburbs were met with an unusual sight on Monday morning after a lost bull wandered into their neighborhood.

Officers say they were called to a report of a stray bull in a neighborhood in Mundelein and photos provided by police show what appears to be a disoriented Highland bull roaming yards in the area.

Police shared the photos in a Facebook post around 9 a.m. on Monday morning, but did not provide specific details on where the incident unfolded.

"Udder chaos on the morning commute! Nothing gets you mooving on Monday like a stray cow call," police said in the Facebook post.

While the topical post by officers mentions "udder," it should be noted that the animal is a bull and does not have an udder.

Authorities later said the bull, who is a resident of unincorporated Mundelein, was eventually returned to its owner and is a repeat offender.

It is not the first time a cow has gotten loose in Chicagoland in recent years.

Back in April of 2023, a cow got loose in Niles after a senior prank went wrong. The students involved in the incident were later issued citations.

In August of 2023, a bull escaped from a property in Barrington Hills. He was eventually found safe after a six-day search.
